Azart Foundation

The Azart Foundation was established at the request of artist Guy Rombouts (1949) to inventory, archive, and manage his work. The name is derived from the Azart alphabet he designed, in which letters consist of lines that refer to words, sounds, or colors.

The Azart Foundation aims to preserve the work of Guy Rombouts and promote the artist’s artistic ideas and work.

This is achieved through, among other things:

  • archiving, describing, and preserving the artworks of Guy Rombouts (the collection)
  • archiving and describing publications
  • preserving and storing the archive
  • managing and promoting the collection
  • promoting Guy Rombouts’ artistic oeuvre by organizing or promoting exhibitions, organizing lectures and symposia, and publishing publications in any form or media.
  • Promoting and encouraging artists and art mediators

In the first phase, work will be done on creating an inventory. This inventory will be created in collaboration with the artist and will focus on developing a basic database, made possible by the Flemish Community’s Pilot Projects for Legacies subsidy (September 2024 – August 2025). The Foundation is also collaborating with the Center for Art Archives (CKV) on this project.

Founding members are Guy Rombouts, Luk Lambrecht, Wim Waumans, Liesje Vandenbroeck, and Wim Viaene.
